Welcome to the Senior AQUAPON System Design Skill Badge!

 

This badge ensures that you know the basic role and importance of fish, plants and bacteria within an aquaponics system and how to give each a healthy habitat.  Then you can think of connecting these habitats into a system.

 

System Design may be the most important part of creating a healthy aquaponics ecosystem. Learning about system design gives us an understanding of a systems thinking approach.

 

Begin learning about the role of system design in an aquaponics system by completing the Activities below.

 

Earning this badge should take about 20-30 hours of work. Why so long?  This Badge integrates important skills and knowledge that you will need to demonstrate or gain by earning other Badges.


Learning Objectives

After earning this badge you will be able to:

  • Understand the basic ecological principles of aquaponics
  • Identify system components and explain their function
  • Understand reasons for the variety of system designs
  • Calculate System components that are designed for organism health
  • Choose mechanical and biological filter designs that fits requirements for system
  • Design a 55-275 gallon system that accounts for environemental factors and are specific to choosen species
